Completed Ph.D. on the ''Behavioural Ecology of Western Lowland Gorillas'' in Gabon at Stirling in 1988. Since then has worked in the forests of Cameroun, CAR, DRC, Gabon, Liberia and Rwanda, and was director of the Karisoke Research Centre for the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International for 6 years. Currently Coordinator of the Section on Great Apes of the IUCN/SSC Primate Specialist Group.
