My research involves forensic facial identification. I am currently employed with Peter Hancock studying how to improve human face matching performance on a DTI grant to Omniperception. On a previous ESRC grant to Peter Hancock, Vicki Bruce and Charlie Frowd I collaborated on the development of the EvoFIT Evolutionary Facial Composite System.
Personal research projects began with a final year project investigating the effects of inaccurate configural information on identification of facial composites. I found that by interfering with configural face processing, composite identification was signifiantly enhanced. Since then I have demonstrated that affective information also influences recognition of facial composites. Specifically, composites that are manipulated to portray more positive expressions are identified significantly more often, and that the effect is stronger with personally familiar identities. Current projects are investigating how affective information and presentation format can influence identification accuracy in forensic face matching tasks.
